DTDC Express has partnered with Skye Air Mobility to launch last-mile drone-based deliveries. This initiative began with a successful 7.5 km delivery from Bilaspur to Gurgaon sector 92. CEO Abhishek Chakraborty emphasized the milestone partnership’s role in transforming last-mile logistics amid digitalisation and changing consumer behaviors. The eco-friendly drone delivery aims to reduce carbon emissions and traffic congestion. Plans are in place to expand this service across India to enhance delivery speed and efficiency.
The first drone delivery covered a distance of 7.5 km in 3-4 minutes, compared to the usual 15 minutes by road. This achievement coincides with the company’s 35th year in service.
“As we begin DTDC’s 35th year, our strategic partnership with Skye Air marks a significant milestone in setting new benchmarks for last-mile delivery,” Chakraborty said.
The company highlighted that this delivery reflects their commitment to technology adoption and setting new industry standards. The eco-friendly system reduces carbon emissions and traffic congestion.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with DTDC on its 35th Foundation Day, leveraging our advanced drone delivery infrastructure to redefine last-mile deliveries in urban areas,” a Skye Air representative said. “By integrating drones, we can bypass traffic congestion, enhancing delivery speed, efficiency, and sustainability. Each drone delivery can save over 520 grams of CO2 emissions compared to traditional methods. Our goal is to reduce the distance and time for last-mile deliveries, significantly impacting the industry.”
