π΄ BLACK FRIDAY IS HERE. GET 40% OFF Exclusive Strategic Insights NOW: https://www.RFUplus.com/black-friday-sale Today there are a lot of updates from the Kurakhove direction. Here, in an attempt to outflank the main Ukrainian stronghold, Russians launched a series of attacks on the northern flank, hoping to capitalize on their high ground positions. However, their advance was funneled between two rivers, allowing Ukrainian forces to launch precise and devastating tank raids, catching Russians in the bottleneck and eliminating the assaulting troops. While the Russian offensive toward the town itself and its southern flank appears unpromising, their advance on the northern flank has allowed them to capture Berestky and initiate fighting for Sontsivka. Securing these settlements would enable Russia to form two axes of advance toward Stari Terny. By capturing Stari Terny, Russia would be positioned to threaten and control the rear logistics of Kurakhove, particularly the highway passing through Dachne. The threat to this sole Ukrainian supply route would force Ukrainian forces at Kurakhove to withdraw to avoid encirclement. This strategy is designed to expedite the capture of Kurakhove by bypassing urban combat and advancing across open fields. However, the axis of advance toward Berestky was highly impractical for Russian forces. Ukrainian troops positioned in the high-rise buildings of the Kurakhove Thermal Power Plant have observation points that allow them to monitor and target any Russian advance along the Berestky-Stari Terny road, with clear lines of sight across the Kurakhove reservoir. As a result, Russian forces shifted their focus to Sontsivka, as an advance on Stari Terny appeared more feasible from that direction. In the Sontsivka area, the Russians hold significant tactical advantages that facilitate their advance on the village. First, they have a direct route to the village via a highway, enabling rapid deployment of mechanized assault groups and quick troop dismounting within minutes. Additionally, a topographic analysis reveals that Russian positions to the north of the village are situated at a higher elevation, granting them fire control over Ukrainian forces positioned in the lowlands. Despite these advantages, the Russians face natural obstacles in the form of the Strashny and Solona rivers. These two rivers converge in the village, hindering the Russian advance toward the southern part and creating a funnel that restricts tactical maneuverability. This limits the Russians’ ability to outflank the Ukrainian positions, making their attacks predictable and easier to monitor and counter. Additionally, Ukrainian forces in the southern part of the village are positioned to effectively target Russian troops attempting to cross the rivers, further complicating any Russian advances in this area. The Russian forces proceeded with their attack, and some units managed to enter the northern part of Sontsivka. However, this move placed them in a kill zone that had been carefully prepared by Ukrainian forces. Once the Russians were effectively bottlenecked in northern Sontsivka, Ukrainian forces deployed T-64BV tanks to the north of the village to raid Russian positions. Combat footage from the area shows Ukrainian tanks targeting Russian troop concentrations in nearby buildings. The tank fire successfully eliminated these concentrations, and the tanks managed to withdraw under the cover of smoke screens created by their own fire. These constant, unpredictable tank raids prevent the Russians from amassing a sufficient force to launch further attacks from northern Sontsivka, as their units are continually disrupted and eliminated, hindering their ability to organize for subsequent offensives. Overall, the terrain configuration and lack of the decisive tactical advantage at most of the northern flank of Kurakhove forced Russians on a predictable route of attack toward Sontsivka, which the Ukrainians managed to counter by effectively leveraging natural obstacles in the form of the rivers to their advantage. Such circumstances give Russians no other options but to continue highly attritional frontal assaults on Kurakhove without any chance of a quick victory with an encirclement. π’ Browse our website: https://www.rfunews.com Today there are a lot of interesting updates from the Pokrovsk direction. Here, Russian forces slowed down their offensive efforts in order to reorganize their forces inside the Hrodivka-Novohrodivka-Selydove defense belt. The Ukrainians took advantage of the Russian operational pause, deploying the elite NATO-trained 425th Assault Battalion Skala and 5th Assault Brigade, facing the unprepared and exhausted Russian units which based on the combat videos, seem to have just been reinforced by North Korean soldiers. Recently, Russian forces secured control of the town of Selydove. The protracted but crucial battle for this town delayed their primary offensive toward Pokrovsk and significantly thinned the Russian ranks. This development forced the Russians to reorganize and regroup, reducing the intensity of their attacks and exposing critical vulnerabilities. Seizing this opportunity, Ukrainian commanders from the 5th Assault Brigade and the 425th Skala Assault Battalion devised a series of surprise operations to reclaim lost positions near Novohrodivka and Hrodivka. Ukrainian command has identified that the new Russian offensives from Selydove are aimed at the E-50 highway and its flanks. Concurrently, Russian forces are attempting to advance on Myrnograd from Novohrodivka and Hrodivka. To counter these efforts and shift the Russians onto the defensive in this region, Ukrainian forces initiated a preemptive strategy. The first step involved deploying the Ukrainian Air Force, which launched a precision strike on Russian concentrations in Hrodivka. Combat footage reveals Ukrainian jets employing French-made AASM Hammer guided bombs to disrupt Russian preparations, effectively increasing their vulnerability to a Ukrainian counterattacks. The airstrikes were further supported by FPV drone strikes, which targeted and eliminated Russian survivors attempting to disperse and hide from the aerial bombardment. Notably, Ukrainian drone operators observed soldiers among the survivors who appeared to be of Asian descent, suggesting the presence of North Korean personnel integrated into Russian units. This aligns with earlier reports, as just two weeks ago, Ukrainian fighters began noticing North Korean flags flying over newly captured positions. These North Korean soldiers are fully integrated into the Russian army, wearing identical uniforms. Although, the recent footage of North Korean rifles and machine guns in Kursk may suggest they are partially equipped by North Korea, hinting at a deeper logistical cooperation between the two countries. Following the airstrike, the 425th Assault Brigade Skala launched a decisive counterattack. Infantry squads advanced aboard Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, which provided suppressive fire on Russian positions while withstanding hits from RPGs. Upon reaching the target area, the Bradleys dismounted Ukrainian assault squads, who proceeded to storm and capture six trenches held by Russian forces. During the assault, one Bradley was struck by a Russian anti-tank guided missile but successfully withdrew thanks to its robust armor. Meanwhile, Ukrainian stormtroopers methodically cleared the trenches, eliminating Russian resistance and securing new positions. The captured trenches near Novohrodivka established a critical buffer zone before Myrnograd, disrupting Russian plans and forcing their troops to retreat to their original positions. Overall, Russian forces were caught off guard in an operational pause which resulted in a series of powerful Ukrainian counterattacks. The panicking assault by Russian and North Korean forces ended in a disaster, possibly due to severe problems with communication and coordination. The positions regained by the Ukrainian fighters will amplify and reinforce their defenses to prepare for further intensification of the Russian offensive towards Pokrovsk and Myrnograd, to establish a buffer zone and to delay them before they reach these cities. Such a Ukrainian approach could stop the Russian offensive in winter, as the ground will become muddy from snow, complicating logistical issues for the Russian and North Korean troops.

New Ukrainian munition packs a punch through Russian tanks’ cage armour

Ukrainian drone strikes have forced Russia to roll out protective cages for military vehicles engaged in its so-called Special Military Operation. Up to now they’ve offered protection from drones, shielding personnel from the blast of an exploding munition or preventing drone-delivered anti-tank munitions, which pierce armour with explosively formed penetrators, from getting close enough. Now those cages may have been rendered useless by a new type of munition. β« Follow us on Twitter/X: https://twitter.com/RFUEnglish or @RFUEnglish Today, the most interesting developments come from the Kurakhove direction. Here, a heavy battle ensued on the southern flank of Kurakhove, and with every terrain factor working in favor of the Ukrainian defense, Russian losses, and surrendering soldiers started to mount. This led Russian commanders to adopt draconian measures, firing at their own men to prevent them from surrendering to the Ukrainians. The main Russian goal here is to advance to the southern flank of Kurakhove and open up a huge front for Ukrainian defenders. However, advancing purely through these fields would stretch Russian supply lines over 20 kilometers from their nearest supply hubs and force them through unpaved roads that are unusable during the rainy season. That is why Russians must first take the belt of settlements between Kurakhove and Vuhledar, which have a paved road running through them, allowing them to stash equipment and ammunition along the way. The most intense battle right now is taking place around Kostyantynivka, with Russians controlling the town itself, and Ukrainians controlling the surrounding fields and settlements. If we look at the topographic map, we can see that these settlements are also situated in the lowlands, with the fields that Russians mean to take being located on the high ground. Open-source analysis shows that Ukrainians have set up strong defensive positions on top of the hills and behind the rivers and streams. What gives Ukrainians another strong defensive advantage is the fact that the tree lines on the hills run perpendicular to the Russian line of advance. As the rivers and swampy ground to the north and south of these positions make flanking maneuvers impossible, Russian assault groups are forced to attack Ukrainian positions head-on. Moreover, to get to the tree lines with strong Ukrainian fortified positions, Russians have to cross the O-0532 highway at 400 meters, which is the approximate effective range of Ukrainian assault rifles. This means that the entire field in front of the Ukrainian trenches is within range of their small-arms fire, and if Russians want to have a chance to survive, they must deploy mechanized assault units to cross the fields. However, the situation does not get better for Russian forces, as a small river branch creates wide, swampy terrain along the Russian avenue of attack. This forces Russian mechanized units to use a bridge to cross, creating a chokepoint on which Ukrainians can concentrate their artillery fire and drone strikes. Furthermore, the road Russians must follow, forces Russians to assault Ukrainian positions from down the slope, meaning that the terrain works entirely in favor of Ukrainian defenders. Recently, Russians have launched wave after wave of mechanized assaults, trying to land their infantry on the foremost tree line and capture the Ukrainian trenches. Russians launched their company-sized mechanized assaults with up to 10 armored vehicles and 150 infantry at a time. Ukrainians detected these Russian tank convoys already on the approach using reconnaissance drones. Geolocated footage then shows how, by the time Russians crossed the bridge, Ukrainian artillery had opened fire. The footage also shows how Ukrainians had placed anti-tank mines remotely with heavy drones, which caused a high number of losses among Russian armored vehicles.
The original uncensored combat footage can be found on our Telegram channel through the link in the description. Only after losing dozens of armored vehicles and countless soldiersβ lives to Ukrainian landmines did the Russians decide to equip two of their leading T-80 tanks with mine rollers to clear the path for the Russian columns. Unfortunately for Russians, this did not help much, as the tanks were ironically disabled by anti-tank mines despite being equipped to clear them, and finished off by Ukrainian drones. After dealing with the pressing threat of Russian tanks and armored vehicles, Ukrainians used Mavic drones to drop grenades on any surviving Russian infantry, often trying to seek shelter amongst the surrounding trees and sparse buildings north of the river. At one point, knowing they were going to be killed anyway, a group of Russian soldiers decided to move out of the tree cover and surrender to a Ukrainian drone. The Ukrainian drone, accepting their surrender, led the Russian soldiers back to Ukrainian lines to be…
