Today there is a lot of news from the Pokrovsk direction.
Here, in a stark demonstration of the consequences of poorly coordinated offensives, Russian forces suffered devastating losses during their recent wave of attacks, leaving their surviving units scattered across a vast territory and vulnerable. Seizing the opportunity, Ukrainian forces launched a swift counterattack, effortlessly reclaiming lost ground and exposing the fragility of the Russian foothold.
In recent days, the Russians initiated an offensive across multiple fronts, with their primary objective in the southwest focused on advancing along the railway line from Selydove toward settlements south of Pokrovsk. Their goal was to place key Ukrainian supply lines in the city under fire control, thereby disrupting logistics and exerting pressure on defensive positions. To achieve this, they utilized Selydove as their operational base. However, their progress quickly stalled as the terrain ahead presented significant challenges.
If we look at the topographic map, we can see that the terrain in the Selydove area consists of a mix of relatively low-lying areas with higher ridges dispersed. While Selydove itself appears on slightly higher ground relative to some of the surrounding villages like Hryhorivka, the terrain towards Novooleksiivka gradually levels off, providing limited opportunities for sustained observation points. Despite the elevation in some areas, the terrain lacks significant natural cover like forests or hills because of the vast areas of open agricultural fields, making attacking Russian forces not only highly visible to Ukrainian defenders but also vulnerable to minefields, which the Ukrainians have thoroughly prepared and enriched in the past weeks.
At the same time, Novooleksiivka benefits from slightly higher terrain elevations compared to the approaches from Selydove. This height advantage, although not steep, offers better fields of observation for defensive forces combined with the usage of the natural barriers to establish protected supply routes, ensuring logistical continuity under pressure.
Additionally, Novooleksiivka is surrounded by a dispersed network of roads, providing defenders with the flexibility to quickly reinforce their positions or execute tactical withdrawals. This advantage enabled the Ukrainians to mount an effective counterattack against the remnants of Russian forces that had briefly established a foothold in the village.
Drone operators from the Omega special forces unit of the National Guard of Ukraine released a compelling video showcasing their coordinated efforts to eliminate the remaining Russian troops entrenched in Novooleksiivka. The operation began with two Ukrainian tanks boldly advancing into the village, using precision strikes to target several houses identified through aerial surveillance as key positions harboring concentrated Russian forces.
After completing their assault, the first tank withdrew, deploying a smoke screen to obscure its movements and shield itself from any counterattacks. However, as it retreated, a Russian FPV drone emerged over the horizon, targeting the second tank that had remained in position to cover the withdrawal. At this critical moment, the Ukrainian tank crew demonstrated their expert knowledge of the terrain, choosing a position in a lowland area that created a radio shadow, disrupting the drone’s ability to strike its target. Also, the vulnerable parts of the tank were shielded by nearby bushes, further complicating the drone’s attempts to attack.
The footage continues with several attempts of the Russian drone to attack but without success. It hovered, waiting for the moment to strike, but the tank confused the operators’ plans with a deceptive maneuver, managed to fire another shot, and released a new smoke screen. Visible from the footage, the drone started looking for a target where there was no longer one. This allowed both Ukrainian tanks to take cover with electronic warfare and return to safety. The Russian kamikaze drone, having lost connection to the operators, simply rose into the sky and later crashed.

Today there are a lot of updates from the Kurahove direction.
Here, amid escalating efforts to bypass fortified defenses, Russian forces focused on a turning maneuver aimed at forcing Ukrainian withdrawals and capturing key settlements without direct confrontation. However, so far Ukrainian forces managed to disrupt this operation through relentless counterattacks, forcing the Russians to revert to costly frontal assaults and continue fighting on terms dictated by the defenders.
Kurakhove is a key town for a potential Russian advance toward Pokrovsk, making it the focus of an aggressive offensive aimed at capturing it while minimizing urban clashes. With a pre-war population of 20,000, Kurakhove also hosts significant industrial facilities, including a large thermal plant. Although damaged by Russian attacks in October 2022, the plant’s fortified structures could serve as defensive strongholds for Ukrainian forces. To circumvent these challenges, Russian forces have intensified their southern advances, aiming to sever the N15 highway—a critical supply route for Ukrainian troops and ammunition.
As detailed in the previous report, Russian forces have launched a multifaceted offensive, employing various tactics to advance. This includes deploying small infantry groups to infiltrate plantations and villages, creating a gradual buildup of forces. These maneuvers, often referred to as “bag tactics,” involve encircling Ukrainian positions by spreading out in a comb-like formation. This method aims to “box in” Ukrainian troops, forcing them into untenable positions and compelling retreats under pressure from attacks on multiple flanks.
The geography of the area poses significant challenges for Ukrainian defenders. If we look at the topographic map, we can see that Ukrainian-held settlements are situated in lowlands, while Russian forces advance from higher terrain. This elevation advantage enables Russian troops to exert effective fire control, target Ukrainian positions with long-range artillery, and closely monitor their movements. In response, Ukrainian forces have begun regrouping closer to a line of settlements that offer more favorable defensive positions and improved logistical support for troop movements and supplies.
Recent reports highlight a concentrated Russian effort to advance toward Dalne. Their objective here is a flanking maneuver through Dalne, aimed at creating the threat of operational encirclement and bypassing the need to fight for each settlement along the line—where they have been incurring heavy losses. With limited reserves and time, Russian forces cannot afford to confront every village individually. Aware of this strategy, the Ukrainian command has launched continuous counterattacks on Dalne, effectively disrupting Russian attempts to establish firm control over the area.
Dalne, a small settlement with limited potential for establishing strong defensive positions, is partially shielded to the south by tree lines. However, even if Russian forces attempt to secure a foothold here, their options for advancing westward through open fields are severely constrained by the nearby Ukrainian trench networks south of Kurakhove and the major defensive base at Uspenivka. Ukrainian counterattacks in the area rely on swift, targeted operations supported by armored vehicles and MRAPs, aiming to disrupt Russian troop concentrations and repel mechanized breakthrough attempts.
Geolocated footage captured a striking Ukrainian operation in which a camouflaged Leopard tank destroyed an entire Russian armored column advancing toward Dalne. Unaware of the Leopard’s position, the column moved forward until it came under direct fire, resulting in the destruction of most Russian vehicles before they could react. One armored vehicle attempted to escape by reversing, but its slow retreat made it an easy target for the Leopard. The few Russian soldiers who survived and sought cover were later neutralized by grenades dropped from Ukrainian drones, showcasing the effective coordination of ground and aerial assets in the operation.
The deployment of tanks and armored vehicles by Ukrainian forces demonstrates their ability to maintain operational flexibility, including secure routes for moving and extracting armor, as well as for logistical supplies or a potential withdrawal. Russia has launched an intercontinental ballistic missile at Ukraine for the first time, Kyiv said on Thursday, a move that would mark a significant escalation in the almost three-year-old war.
The Ukrainian air force said that a Russian intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) had been used as part of an attack on critical infrastructure in Dnipro, a city in central Ukraine. It was not immediately clear what damage was caused and the claim has yet to be independently verified. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, declined to comment.
If confirmed it would be the first time that an ICBM, a weapon designed for long-range strikes carrying nuclear or conventional warheads during the Cold War, has been fired in anger.
