Pokrovsk: Lines Crumbling? Donkeys and White Flags Point to Russian Army Disarray
Pokrovsk. Another name etched into the brutal map of this war. If you’ve been watching the feeds, you’ve seen the headlines screaming about breakthroughs and collapses. Forget the armchair generals and their grand theories for a minute. What’s coming out of the digital trenches – the raw footage, the leaked comms, the after-action reports – paints a stark picture around Pokrovsk: the Russian army is in deep shit. We’re not talking about a tactical retreat or a planned repositioning. We’re talking about a breakdown in logistics so profound it’s forcing battlefield decisions. They’re running out of gas, food, and ammo. And when that happens, morale goes south faster than a Humvee in a ditch. The whispers are getting louder: Russian units surrendering, equipment abandoned, and a desperation that stinks of defeat. Let’s cut through the noise and look at what the latest video intel is telling us.
Key Observations from the Frontlines
Logistical Nightmare: Ukrainian drone and artillery strikes have turned Russian supply lines into kill zones. Footage confirms roads littered with burning trucks and abandoned armor. They can’t get supplies to the front. We’re seeing reports of troops scavenging from dead comrades – a clear sign of systemic failure. This isn’t just about damaged trucks; it’s a complete disruption of their ability to sustain combat operations.
Drone Dominance: The sky over Pokrovsk belongs to Ukraine. Relentless drone surveillance and precision strikes are crippling Russian movements. Both sides are talking about it: Ukrainian drones are so thick, open movement is suicide. We’re seeing claims of single drone operators wiping out entire companies. This isn’t just harassment; it’s battlefield shaping.
Desperate Measures: The Russian response to their logistical collapse is almost unbelievable if it wasn’t so grimly comical. They’re issuing donkeys to frontline units for transport. Donkeys. In the 21st century. This isn’t just ineffective; it’s a complete humiliation for their soldiers, a public admission of failure broadcast to the world. It’s the kind of desperation move that breaks morale.

Surrender Signals: Ukrainian forces are exploiting the Russian logistical collapse and plummeting morale. They’re using drones equipped with loudspeakers to broadcast surrender appeals. And it’s working. Reports of Russian units waving white flags are surfacing. Surrender isn’t just about individual soldiers; it’s a symptom of a larger collapse in unit cohesion and the will to fight.
Pishchane Key: Ukraine is focusing on retaking Pishchane. This isn’t just about territory; it’s about denying Russia a critical staging ground for attacks on Pokrovsk. By hammering Russian positions in Pishchane with drones and artillery, Ukraine is disrupting their offensive and seizing a tactical advantage. Holding Pishchane gives Ukraine fire control over key Russian routes and strengthens their defensive lines.
German Armor in the Fight: Leopard 1A5 tanks are now deployed near Pokrovsk. While older tech, these tanks are proving effective in direct fire engagements, providing crucial support for infantry and taking out Russian armor. Their maneuverability is key in a drone-saturated environment, allowing for rapid repositioning and minimizing exposure. Western armor, even older models, is making a difference on this front.
Political Maneuvering: While the ground war grinds on, the political front is heating up. Trump is talking about deals with Putin, while Waltz is pushing for negotiations. Meanwhile, there’s talk of Ukraine and Europe forging a new coalition, potentially independent of US political winds. This political uncertainty adds another layer of complexity to the battlefield situation.

What we’re seeing in Pokrovsk isn’t just a bad day for the Russians. It’s a potential culmination point. Their offensive is grinding to a halt, choked by its own logistical failures and hammered by Ukrainian drone superiority. Issuing donkeys is not a solution; it’s a signal of systemic rot. When an army starts surrendering in chunks, when its supply lines are shredded, and when its leadership resorts to medieval transport solutions, you’re looking at a force on the verge of collapse. Pokrovsk could be the breaking point. The Ukrainians are playing this smart, targeting logistics, exploiting weaknesses, and pressing their advantage in drone warfare. This isn’t just about holding ground; it’s about shattering the Russian offensive capability in this sector.

Today, there are a lot of interesting updates from the Pokrovsk direction.
Here, Ukrainians have decimated Russian logistics through drone strikes and precise artillery fire, creating numerous roads of death in the Russian rear. With freezing temperatures dropping below 18 degrees Celsius, and being issued donkeys instead of trucks for transport, many Russian soldiers simply opted to wave the white flag to surrender, instead of continuing the fight.
The goal of the Ukrainian forces in this area is to undermine the Russian offensive effort around Pokrovsk. To achieve this, the Ukrainians are constantly striking Russian logistics to prevent the arrival of heavy equipment, soldiers, and supplies to the frontline. This creates severe issues for the Russian forces on the frontline, including a lack of manpower and armored support, which allows the Ukrainians to conduct rapid and successful counterattacks that further disrupt the Russian offensive.
The main contributor to high Russian manpower losses is the effectiveness of Ukrainian drone surveillance and the precision of kamikaze drone units. Both Russian and Ukrainian soldiers report that Ukrainian drones swarm the frontline, making any movement in the open basically impossible and akin to suicide. Geolocated footage from Novovasylivka underscores this sentiment, showing the sheer quantity of Ukrainian drones in the sky simultaneously. One drone conducts the strike, while another is an observation drone equipped with a droppable grenade, looking for targets with a thermal camera. The other FPV drone is on standby, ready to strike any other target that might present itself.
Such effective methods of surveillance and precision strikes led to some individual Ukrainian drone operators eliminating over a company of Russian soldiers, between 150 and 200 men, around Pokrovsk alone. Meanwhile, Russian forces lack a sufficient number of experienced drone operators to keep up with Ukrainians, leading to overwhelming Ukrainian drone superiority in this direction.
Ukrainians have not only targeted the Russian frontline but also disrupted logistics deep behind enemy lines with precision strikes from drones and artillery. Footage from Russian soldiers shows Russian logistics routes transformed into roads of death, filled with destroyed armored vehicles, trucks, and cars. This destruction has forced Russian troops to resort to civilian vehicles, motorbikes, or even walking to the front. The lack of proper transport and continuous strikes have slowed logistics, leaving Russian soldiers at Pokrovsk complaining of shortages in food, water, fuel, and equipment, often scavenging these from fallen comrades. With temperatures plunging to minus eighteen degrees, many of them also report suffering from frostbite during long marches and time spent idle in the trenches.
In a desperate effort to remedy their collapsing logistics at Pokrovsk, the Russian Ministry of Defense issued donkeys, horses, and mules to soldiers in the Pokrovsk direction to be used for transport and supply animals. Quite obviously, this provides no real relief to Russian soldiers stuck on the frontline, with animals not being able to compensate for the lack of a strong motorized logistics network.
To many Russian soldiers on the frontline, the use of donkeys, horses, and mules was the final straw, exposing the desperate state of their own military. Ukrainians were well aware of this and strapped loudspeakers to their drones, broadcasting messages to Russian soldiers, offering them to surrender. Many Russian soldiers decided that surrendering would be the only way they could be adequately fed and treated for their illnesses, leading large numbers of Russian soldiers to give up the fight, as one group of 9 soldiers left their trenches waving the white flag.
Overall, the Ukrainians managed to deplete and strain Russian logistics, stretching the Russian offensive to the point of culmination, and leading to the Russian Ministry of Defense officially issuing donkeys and horses for logistics and transport purposes. Poor logistics reduce the flow of Russian soldiers to the frontline and slows their response time. Underfed, underequipped, and under constant counterattacks, Russian soldiers’ morale has now dropped to an all-time low, with surrenders becoming more frequent by the day. Such circumstances enabled Ukrainians to push back, retake the initiative, and regain ground, an effort which will continue as the collapse of the Russian logistics can lead to a complete collapse of Russian lines west of Pokrovsk.

Battle For Pokrovsk. Are German Tanks Gamechangers? | Ukraine Front Line UpdateRadio Free Europe/Radio Liberty164,673 views | 3,658 | February 21 2025 21:58:45 (539 comments)[ Read more … ]
The German Leopard 1A5 tanks were developed during the Cold War as a counter to Soviet T-64 tanks. Soldiers of the 1st Tank Battalion of the 5th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade say that the vehicle is highly maneuverable, which, in modern warfare, allows for a quicker retreat from the battlefield—especially when drones dominate the sky. Most of the time, the troops engage the enemy using direct fire—when the opponent is practically right in front of the tank. This tactic helps provide cover for infantry and enables precise strikes against both assault groups and armored vehicles.

Ukraine overturned plans of Putin’s army in Pokrovsk where Russians began to lose their positionsKanal1323,685 views | 766 | February 21 2025 00:00:06 (34 comments)[ Read more … ]

There are a lot of interesting updates from the Pokrovsk direction, Donetsk Oblast, with new details on Ukraine’s operation to liberate Pishchane. Accprding to Euromaidan Press media outlet, as Ukrainian forces closed in on Pishchane, they leveraged recent territorial gains to weaken Russian defenses. With Russian troops at a severe disadvantage, Ukrainian assault units are moving in to finish the fight to secure a key tactical position that could shift the battle for Pokrovsk.
The goal of the Ukrainian forces in this area is to take complete control of the settlement of Pishchane. Pishchane provides Russian forces with a launching pad to conduct assaults directly towards the Pokrovsk agglomeration. Also, it has multiple crossing points that Russians could use to transfer armored vehicles over the Solona River, which can be used by Russians to develop their western flanking operation further.
Euromaidan Press says that to push the Russians out, Ukrainians put constant pressure on the Russian forces stationed in Pishchane with intense drone strikes and precision fire. This is meant to weaken the Russian garrison to the point that Ukrainians can launch a mechanized ground assault to eliminate the remaining survivors and reclaim the settlement for their own. The main advantage of the Ukrainian forces in this area is the direct road link between Zvirove and Pishchane, allowing them to advance quickly into the settlement and minimize exposure to Russian fire. On top of that, there is a strong Ukrainian trench network located on the crossroad only one kilometer away from Pishchane.
This means that the soldiers in this fortification can provide additional fire support to the advancing assault group with mortars and sniper fire, which can effectively suppress Russian soldiers in the settlement, preventing them from directly targeting the Ukrainian column.
On top of that, if we look at the topographic map, we can see that the recently retaken trench network north of Pischane overlooks Russian positions in the lowlands.
Euromaidan Press says that this allows the Ukrainians to observe Russian movements in and out of the village, while also enforcing fire control from an additional angle ahead of their assaults. The main disadvantage for Russian forces in this area is the overwhelming presence of Ukrainian drones, which continuously conduct reconnaissance and precision strikes on Russians moving in and into the town. Given Pishchane’s small size, Ukrainian drone operators can quickly observe and target all Russian positions within the village, preventing them from establishing an effective all-round defense, with Ukrainians closing in all around them. As Russian soldiers could not move out in the open without risking being immediately targeted by Ukrainian drones, artillery, or sniper fire, they retreated into basements and houses, effectively blinding themselves against any Ukrainian ground assault. In losing Pishchane as their staging ground, Russian forces are no longer able to launch direct assaults toward Pokrovsk, which will likely lead to renewed costly assaults over the open fields. In the combined operations on the west flank of Pokrovsk, Ukrainians are systematically dismantling the threat of the Russian pincer maneuver, while Russians are slowly losing their progress after weeks of incredibly heavy losses. http://youtube.com/kanal13az/join – click here and support Kanal13 monthly for distributing more videos and independent journalism
