Ukrainian drone tries to kill Russian soldier – then returns and saves his life The Telegraph
6,133,034 views | 68,294 | September 24 2024 18:54:29 (11,315 comments)[ Read more … ] A Ukrainian front-line battalion filmed its drone-led rescue of an injured Russian soldier.

The K-2 Battalion, which is part of the Ukrainian Army’s 54th Brigade, posted the video across several different social media platforms this week.

Set to eerie music, the video runs longest on Telegram at more than 18 minutes. It picks out the strained facial expressions of the injured Russian soldier, damage to his wrist watch and the streak of dried blood running down the side of his face.

In the video, the drone operator decides not to kill the injured Russian soldier and instead drops water and a note before leading him across No Man’s Land to a Ukrainian trench.

It is unclear where or when the video was shot, although it appears to be set in late summer on a battlefield in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine. Throughout the war, the 54th Brigade has been positioned on the front line in the Donbas region.

The video appears to be part of a sophisticated recruitment for the K-2 Battalion which, like the rest of the Ukrainian army, is under pressure to sign up more soldiers.

The released video starts as a Ukrainian drone scans a Russian trench after an attack, searching for survivors. It spots the injured Russian soldier lying on top of at least two bodies under an earth arch.

This is, of course, not to say that Ukraine is winning the war, and both sides of the conflict are thought to be exhausted; both militarily and economically. So how long can Russia keep its war machine fuelled? And how long will the West continue to support Ukraine against its aggressor?

For a deep dive into this dreadful war, Piers Morgan invites author of ‘Provoked: How Washington Started the New Cold War with Russia and the Catastrophe in Ukraine’ Scott Horton, former Navy Seal who killed Osama Bin Laden Rob O’Neill, host and founder of The Young Turks Cenk Uygur, Ukrainian streamer and YouTuber Anastasiya Paraskevova and former NATO Supreme allied commander General Wesley Clark.

Today, there are a lot of interesting updates from the Russian Federation.

Recently, Ukrainians finally received Western approval to use Western-delivered weapons to strike Russian military bases on Russian soil. This, combined with recent Ukrainian drone innovations that extend Ukraine’s strike range to 2,000 kilometers, led to a devastating combination of long-range strikes that damaged Russia’s ability to sustain the war both in the short- and in the long term.

The first target of the massive Ukrainian strike became a large oil depot in the city of Kaluga. To destroy it, Ukrainian forces used two long-range drones, causing a massive inferno to erupt in the middle of the city. Interestingly, the Ukrainian military intelligence service revealed that they unleashed new drones with a range of up to 2,000 kilometers away. These drones also have a powerful 75-kilogram warhead, nearly two times bigger than the Russian-Iranian Shahed drones. After destroying the Kaluga oil depot, Ukrainians hit a Russian artillery arsenal near Kotovo in the Novgorod region, 680 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, resulting in a loud explosion audible from several miles away. Later, Ukrainians hit a Russian electromechanical factory in Izhevsk, over 1300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, which produces Tor air0 defense systems, radars, and other technical components.

Ukrainian drone and missile strikes on ammunition warehouses and oil depots directly impact Russians’ ability to sustain combat operations in the short term. However, strikes on Russian production facilities such as refineries and electromechanical factories severely damage the Russian ability to maintain the war in the long term. The main reason for this is that Russians are unable to produce or adequately repair many different components and manufacturing equipment. This means that by damaging or destroying these facilities, there is a significant chance that Ukrainians have destroyed or otherwise permanently diminished the Russian production capabilities of said equipment.

Moreover, to amplify Ukrainian deep-strike capabilities, the United States, Britain, and France recently allowed Ukraine to strike military targets on Russian soil. Russian forces have over 240 confirmed military objects within Ukrainian striking distance in Russian territory that Ukrainians were previously not allowed to target. These bases include, but are not limited to, airfields, ammunition depots, command and control centers, training and repair facilities, and logistics centers. Russians have used all these objects to conduct their war on Ukraine in relative safety from Ukrainian missile strikes. Now, Ukraine has finally received permission to strike back at these targets and eliminate the imposed safe zone for Russian forces.

The first Ukrainian target for the ATACMS missiles was the Karachev ammunition depot in the Bryansk region. Russian sources also reported heightened Ukrainian drone activity in the region as well, indicating that Ukrainians used drones to exhaust Russian air defense systems prior to the ATACMS strike. The ATACMS strike itself was a complete success, achieving a direct hit on the Russian base with a cluster munition warhead, as locals report hearing over a dozen secondary detonations as more ammunition caught fire. Ukrainian intelligence services report that the facility contained both conventional and rocket-propelled artillery ammunition, including shells provided by North Korea, guided glide bombs, and air defense missiles. As footage shared by local residents shows smoke clouds of a massive explosion rising into the air.

Overall, Ukrainian strike capabilities have been severely enhanced by the range restrictions on Western missile use being lifted, as well as Ukraine revealing to be capable of striking targets 2000 kilometers away with their new long-range kamikaze drones. While Ukrainians do not have a large enough stockpile of ATACMS missiles to strike all 250 known Russian military objects within range, Russians also do not have enough air defense systems to defend all of these targets and their frontline positions simultaneously. Consequently, Ukrainians can pick and choose which undefended bases to hit, exploiting gaps in the Russian air defense network. Unfortunately for Russians, the United States Department of Defense recently announced that they will be sending Ukrainians an undisclosed amount of ATACMS missiles in their upcoming aid package as well. This means that Ukraine’s ability to dismantle Russian military infrastructure will gain even greater momentum, tightening the noose on Russian combat operations and bolstering Ukrainian hopes for a decisive edge in the war.

First video of killed North Korean soldiers at frontline: Ukrainian army shows footage from Selidovo Kanal13

The Telegram channel “Gostri Kartuzi” published a video showing the liquidation of a North Korean soldier in the near rear zone of Russian troops at a distance of about 5 kilometers from the front near Selidovo. Experts, having analyzed the face of the deceased in detail, determined that he was a representative of Korean nationality. Military expert Alexander Kovalenko explained that the physiognomic features of North Koreans, formed against the background of chronic malnutrition and vitamin deficiency, indicate that the liquidated fighter came from North Korea. The video also shows that the deceased was carrying a large load , the volume of which is comparable to his build. This suggests that the Russians may be using North Koreans as labor to transport ammunition and provisions to the front lines. As Kovalenko notes, such a practice is common among Russian troops, since the use of equipment in the frontline zone is difficult due to the systematic destruction of vehicles by Ukrainian drones. Thus, the delivery of goods is carried out by foot porters who carry supplies on their backs. The expert added that the use of North Koreans as labor in the war zone raises questions and suggested waiting for official confirmation before drawing final conclusions. Putin’s forces are believed to be losing hundreds of troops a day, with Ukrainian estimates going as high as 1,200 to 1,500, so the more than 10,000 troops South Korea believes are in Russia. “In the big picture, even 12,000 soldiers don’t affect the general situation of the war significantly,” says Emil Kastehelmi, who runs the Black Bird Group, which tracks the war in Ukraine.

The troops are already under fire, being shelled in the Russian border region of Kursk, according to Kyiv. That is the area where Ukrainian troops have held territory, having started a daring raid in August.

Questions have been raised about the calibre of the North Korean troops, not least because none of the group, which includes 500 officers and three generals, have any combat experience. North Korea’s isolation on the international stage means that its troops, which number more than a million, have faced nothing but training.

“None would think they are going to Russia to die,” Choi Jung Hoon, a former first lieutenant in North Korea’s army, told the Associated Press. “But I think they’re cannon fodder because they will be sent to the most dangerous sites and will surely be killed.” http://youtube.com/kanal13az/join – click here and support Kanal13 monthly for distributing more videos and independent journalism

Today there is a lot of news from the Pokrovsk direction.

Here, in a stark demonstration of the consequences of poorly coordinated offensives, Russian forces suffered devastating losses during their recent wave of attacks, leaving their surviving units scattered across a vast territory and vulnerable. Seizing the opportunity, Ukrainian forces launched a swift counterattack, effortlessly reclaiming lost ground and exposing the fragility of the Russian foothold.

In recent days, the Russians initiated an offensive across multiple fronts, with their primary objective in the southwest focused on advancing along the railway line from Selydove toward settlements south of Pokrovsk. Their goal was to place key Ukrainian supply lines in the city under fire control, thereby disrupting logistics and exerting pressure on defensive positions. To achieve this, they utilized Selydove as their operational base. However, their progress quickly stalled as the terrain ahead presented significant challenges.

If we look at the topographic map, we can see that the terrain in the Selydove area consists of a mix of relatively low-lying areas with higher ridges dispersed. While Selydove itself appears on slightly higher ground relative to some of the surrounding villages like Hryhorivka, the terrain towards Novooleksiivka gradually levels off, providing limited opportunities for sustained observation points. Despite the elevation in some areas, the terrain lacks significant natural cover like forests or hills because of the vast areas of open agricultural fields, making attacking Russian forces not only highly visible to Ukrainian defenders but also vulnerable to minefields, which the Ukrainians have thoroughly prepared and enriched in the past weeks.

At the same time, Novooleksiivka benefits from slightly higher terrain elevations compared to the approaches from Selydove. This height advantage, although not steep, offers better fields of observation for defensive forces combined with the usage of the natural barriers to establish protected supply routes, ensuring logistical continuity under pressure.

Additionally, Novooleksiivka is surrounded by a dispersed network of roads, providing defenders with the flexibility to quickly reinforce their positions or execute tactical withdrawals. This advantage enabled the Ukrainians to mount an effective counterattack against the remnants of Russian forces that had briefly established a foothold in the village.

Drone operators from the Omega special forces unit of the National Guard of Ukraine released a compelling video showcasing their coordinated efforts to eliminate the remaining Russian troops entrenched in Novooleksiivka. The operation began with two Ukrainian tanks boldly advancing into the village, using precision strikes to target several houses identified through aerial surveillance as key positions harboring concentrated Russian forces.

After completing their assault, the first tank withdrew, deploying a smoke screen to obscure its movements and shield itself from any counterattacks. However, as it retreated, a Russian FPV drone emerged over the horizon, targeting the second tank that had remained in position to cover the withdrawal. At this critical moment, the Ukrainian tank crew demonstrated their expert knowledge of the terrain, choosing a position in a lowland area that created a radio shadow, disrupting the drone’s ability to strike its target. Also, the vulnerable parts of the tank were shielded by nearby bushes, further complicating the drone’s attempts to attack.

The footage continues with several attempts of the Russian drone to attack but without success. It hovered, waiting for the moment to strike, but the tank confused the operators’ plans with a deceptive maneuver, managed to fire another shot, and released a new smoke screen. Visible from the footage, the drone started looking for a target where there was no longer one. This allowed both Ukrainian tanks to take cover with electronic warfare and return to safety. The Russian kamikaze drone, having lost connection to the operators, simply rose into the sky and later crashed.
