In this video, I discuss the what Ohio DOT is doing to repair the extensive damage caused by the underdeck bridge fire at the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge. This is just one of several examples of major damage and associated impacts to traffic as a result of fires on or below a bridge deck on an U.S. interstate. Also included in this video is drone footage from a flight that I commissioned for this video.

DJI AVATA 2 – CONFINED SPACE DRONE INSPECTION – WORLD FIRST??Aerial Media Gladstone5,380 views | 89 | May 1 2024 02:58:56 (23 comments)[ Read more … ]
We’ve been using the original DJI Avata for confined space drone inspections since its release and thought we’d get in quick with its successor, the Avata 2. We use a feed from the aircraft battery to power LED lights mounted in custom 3D printed TPU housings. This way the drone isn’t carrying extra battery weight effecting balance and navigation. In all our inspections the drone is piloted from outside the space, often through a manway hatch. In this case half a meter of concrete and steel, and the signal was excellent. We did encounter some issues with the vision positioning system becoming unreliable as shown, but this is similar to the original Avata and can be managed. It’s a work in progress. We will continue to develop and innovate. Who needs an expensive Elios 3??
