Ukraine Drone War: F-16s, Kamikaze Tactics, and a Turning Point in Siversk

The skies above eastern Ukraine churn with a deadly ballet. Drones, both elegant and brutal, have become principal dancers in this conflict, rewriting the rules of engagement in the process. Recent footage from the front lines near Siversk reveals a battlefield on the precipice of a dramatic shift. Ukrainian forces, utilizing innovative kamikaze drone tactics and bolstered by the reported arrival of F-16 fighter jets, have dealt significant blows to Russian offensives. This analysis delves into the evolving role of drone warfare in Ukraine, highlighting how these technological advancements, coupled with Ukrainian ingenuity, might just tip the scales in their favor.

The videos analyzed paint a picture of a rapidly evolving conflict, where technology and adaptation reign supreme. The unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), once relegated to reconnaissance roles, are now frontline combatants, delivering precision strikes with devastating efficiency. The reported arrival of F-16s, if confirmed, would significantly bolster Ukrainian air defenses and offer a much-needed counterbalance to Russia’s air power. The coming weeks will likely see a dramatic increase in drone activity as both sides leverage this technology to gain a decisive advantage on the battlefield.

The human cost of this conflict continues to escalate. While Ukrainian drone operators celebrate victories against Russian armor, the reality on the ground is grim. The fighting is brutal, unforgiving, and characterized by a constant dance with death. As the conflict drags on, the international community faces a moral imperative to push for a peaceful resolution while providing humanitarian aid to those caught in the crossfire. Scroll down to learn more about the specific technologies employed by both sides and how the changing dynamics of this drone war could shape the future of warfare itself.

Today, there is a lot of news from the Siversk direction.

Here, under mounting pressure to achieve promised results, Russian commanders launched a desperate final wave of armored vehicles to breach the Ukrainian stronghold around Ivano-Darivka. However, this move ended in such a disaster, that the Russian generals were arrested and the whole Russian Siversk offensive was completely canceled.

After initial Russian attempts to storm the Ukrainian defensive positions on the hill ridge above Ivano-Darivka from the south led to heavy losses, Russian forces changed the vector of their attack to the north-east of the village, using the Lysychansk Oil Refinery as an operational base to gather forces but again with no success. This renewed failure caused a backlash in Russian media with prominent military analysts putting local commanders under heavy criticism and requesting their dismissal.

With everything on the line, the responsible Russian command staff in the region launched another wave of assaults in a desperate attempt to achieve some results, save their public image, and rescue their military careers. The new assault wave consisted of a turtle tank, multiple tanks equipped with smaller cages against FPV drones, and multiple infantry fighting vehicles. These vehicles used again the dirt road from the oil refinery to reach Ukrainian positions quickly, shortening reaction time for the defenders.

Drone operators from the 4th Rapid Reaction Brigade Rubizh of the National Guard of Ukraine have released a video showcasing the strength and preparedness of their regional defenses. The footage emphasizes the critical role of early detection in successfully repelling enemy assaults. Typically, drone reconnaissance units conduct continuous day and night surveillance across every sector of the frontline. This persistent monitoring prevents surprise attacks and ensures swift, decisive reactions, an essential factor in maintaining effective defense.

Leading the Russian column was a heavily fortified “turtle tank,” outfitted with solid metal plating, additional protective cages, and electronic warfare systems, all designed to ensure its progress to breach Ukrainian defenses. Images reveal the moment a Ukrainian FPV drone struck the tank; despite being shrouded in smoke from the explosion, it pressed onward. The footage then shifts to the perspective of a kamikaze drone, bypassing the next tank in the column to focus on targeting the third vehicle. This tactic aimed to maximize disruption and chaos within the Russian assault group, effectively hindering their advance.

The turtle tank and the second tank pressed forward alone, leaving the rest of the convoy behind. Ukrainian drone operators quickly deployed additional FPV drones, inflicting further damage on the turtle tank and eventually bringing it to a halt. This forced the crew of the second tank to change direction, turning it sideways—a risky maneuver that soon proved disastrous as Ukrainian forces enhanced the dense minefields in the area. As a result, the second tank struck a mine and erupted in a spectacular explosion. Moments later, another tank advancing from the rear met a similar fate, exploding after being hit by a drone strike.

The Ukrainians then focused on the rear of the column, launching simultaneous drone strikes that highlighted their operators’ skill and the Russian convoy’s unpreparedness. In the video’s final moments, they showcased the destruction of the remaining enemy vehicles, including the abandoned turtle tank.

Following this third major setback, outcries from Russian military bloggers grew so intense that the Russian Ministry of Defense was compelled to arrest and remove several high-ranking officers within the 3rd Combined Arms Army overseeing this sector of the frontline. Among those dismissed were the army’s commander, the chief of staff, and the commander of the 7th Motorized Rifle Brigade. They were charged with submitting false reports to their superiors and orchestrating poorly conceived assaults near Siversk. This series of failures resulted in hundreds of Russian casualties, with many wounded soldiers dying on the battlefield without evacuation, while Ukrainian strongholds remained intact and their defenders with no losses.

Sources within the Russian military revealed that authorities also removed the commanders of several unnamed battalions and are investigating the…

F-16s increase Ukraine’s advantage in combat, Russian missile and drone attacks remain ineffective Kanal13

On the morning of November 17, multirole F-16 fighters of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine actively participated in repelling a large-scale combined air attack carried out by Russian troops. In total, around 120 missiles and 90 drones were launched. The Russian defence ministry reported that it had hit all its targets, saying that its attack was on “essential energy infrastructure supporting the Ukrainian military-industrial complex”.

“Russian terrorists once again want to scare us with cold and lack of light,” was how President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky put it.

As reported by Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian pilots in F-16s shot down about ten air targets. “Our F-16 pilots shot down about 10 air targets,” Zelensky said, emphasizing the important role of American fighters in protecting the country’s airspace. The information was also confirmed by one of the largest Ukrainian Telegram channels, “Mykolaiv Vanek”, noting the positive impact of the F-16 on the course of military operations. “While all the data on hits and shootdowns is being collected, I can only say one thing: the FKs showed themselves to be very strong – a ray of positivity in all this nonsense ,” the channel administrator wrote. According to preliminary data, Russian troops used a wide range of weapons, including air, land and sea-based missiles, as well as Shahed type attack drones. In total, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ radio-technical troops recorded 210 enemy air targets, including 120 missiles and 90 UAVs. The active use of F-16s has demonstrated their high efficiency in conditions of combined attacks. Ukrainian military analysts emphasize that the presence of these fighters allows for a significant strengthening of the country’s air defense, especially in the fight against cruise missiles and kamikaze drones. Russia’s latest massive attack, despite its scale and the use of various types of weapons, was successfully repelled thanks to the coordinated work of the air defense and the new capabilities provided to Ukrainian pilots on the F-16. The introduction of F-16s into combat operations confirms their importance in the defense of Ukraine and underscores the importance of ongoing military assistance from Western allies.

Ukrainian officials fear the most recent strike could signal another concerted Russian attempt to deplete the power grid as winter arrives.

Having already endured two-and-a-half bitter winters since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Ukrainians are bracing themselves for another. http://youtube.com/kanal13az/join – click here and support Kanal13 monthly for distributing more videos and independent journalism

Leopard and Abrams Tanks in Trouble: The Drone Threat Explained Military Gear
11,159 views | 318 | November 21 2024 12:00:37 (22 comments)[ Read more … ] The ongoing war in Ukraine underscores the evolving role of tanks in modern warfare, as they face increasing threats not only from anti-tank missiles but also from advanced drones. Recent incidents, such as the destruction of a U.S.-made Abrams tank and a German Leopard 2 tank in Russia’s Kursk region, illustrate this shift. Russia’s ‘Prince Vandal’ drone, equipped with fiber-optic controls and resistant to electronic warfare, is emerging as a powerful weapon, capable of precise strikes against heavily armored vehicles. With nearly half of Ukraine’s Abrams tanks and 20% of Leopard tanks already lost, the rise of drones like the Prince Vandal is reshaping battlefield strategies, raising questions about the future of tank warfare in the age of advanced drone technology.
