This isn’t just about gadgets and gizmos; it’s about the human stories behind the screens, the soldiers pushing the boundaries of drone warfare to defend their homeland.
Key Takeaways: 92nd Brigade’s Drone Operations
Intensified Russian Offensive:Videos from late 2024 highlight a renewed Russian push in the Kharkiv region, particularly around Kupyansk, employing "kamikaze" tactics and exploiting weather conditions for strike-assault operations. The 92nd Brigade, alongside other units, is actively engaged in defensive maneuvers to hold back these advances.
Achilles Battalion in Action: Footage from May 2024 shows the Achilles Battalion’s FPV drone operators targetingRussian vehicles and troops on the highway to Kharkiv, demonstrating the battalion’s key role in disrupting enemy logistics and movements. Interviews with drone pilots and the battalion commander, Yurii "Achilles" Fedorenko, reveal their motivations, tactics, and assessment of the evolving battlefield.
Impact of US Aid Anticipated: Commander Fedorenko emphasizes the significance of incoming US military aid, predicting it will shift the battlefield dynamics in favor of Ukrainian forces in the coming months.
Combined Arms Operations: Videos document the 92nd Brigade’s coordinated efforts with other Ukrainian units, such as the 1st Presidential Brigade "Bureviy" and the 77th Airborne Brigade, demonstrating the integration of drone operations within broader defensive strategies.
Documented Drone Strikes: Multiple videos offer visual confirmation of FPV drone strikes against a variety of Russian targets, including tanks, BMPs (Infantry Fighting Vehicles), MT-LBs (Multi-Purpose Armoured Personnel Carriers), and other military vehicles near Kruhlyakivka.
The Shifting Sands of Drone Warfare: Predictions for the 92nd
The increasing reliance on drone warfare in the Kharkiv region showcases a critical adaptation by Ukrainian forces. While videos reveal the effectiveness of FPV drones in targeted strikes, they also underscore the fluid nature of this conflict. Yuriy Fedorenko, commander of the Achilles strike UAV battalion from the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade of Ukraine, noted that Russian forces in the Kupyansk sector are seeking reserves and are trying to strengthen their strike capabilities using weather conditions. He shared the information on Espreso TV.
“On the Kupyansk front, the situation remains highly tense as Russian troops operate in a ‘kamikaze mode’. Their task is to seize left-bank Kupyansk and Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi by the end of the year. As a result, coercive measures and specialized units are forcing the Russian occupiers into battle. They are also seeking additional reserves and, taking advantage of the weather conditions, are attempting to enhance their capabilities in strike-assault operations,” commented the commander of the strike UAV battalion Achilles.
According to his statement, the Deep State map shows that Russians had partial success in the Lozova direction, attacking with significant forces and means, but today the maneuvering advance of the Russian army has been halted.
“Regarding the Kruhlyakivka direction, the 1st Presidential Operational Brigade Bureviy has been holding back the Russian occupiers for a long time, not allowing them to move forward – meaning all positions remain under Ukrainian control. Moreover, a series of successful measures have been taken to drive Russians out of Kolisnykivskyi forest; combat operations continue. Despite Russian assaults, the Ukrainian defense forces manage to maintain control in the area of left-bank Kupyansk and Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi,” summarized Yuriy Fedorenko.
Russian forces have captured the villages of Pershotravneve and Vyshneve in Kharkiv region, establishing a foothold for future operations. According to Oleh Romanov, Commander of the Anti-Tank Battalion of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade of Ukraine, the enemy likely plans to use mechanized thrusts after the ground freezes to cross the Chornyi Zherebets River. He shared this information on the air of “Suspilne Kharkiv.”
“The enemy continues its attempts to push Ukraine’s Defense Forces behind the natural barrier of the Oskil River. Assault operations are ongoing along our brigade’s defensive line in the north. From the Defense Forces’ side, including the 3rd Assault Brigade, we are conducting stabilization measures. Natural conditions, such as morning fog, sometimes favor the enemy. Russian troops exploit this to infiltrate our defensive lines in small groups. Last week, there was even a skirmish between our drone operators and enemy infantry,” Romanov said during the broadcast on “Suspilne.” Romanov also notes that the occupiers are laying the groundwork for a large-scale offensive, anticipating frozen ground. This would enable Russian forces to use equipment to cross the Chornyi Zherebets River.
“We are preparing for this scenario,” he stated. According to Romanov, Russian losses in this sector are approximately seven soldiers for every one Ukrainian defender.

“After the United States of America decided to allocate military aid to us, the enemy clearly analyzed and realized that the maximum concentration of forces and means of defence will be in one and a half to two months, when logistically everything will pass. It (U.S. aid) has begun to arrive even now, but in small batches. Accordingly, when the defence forces receive the necessary number of forces and means, we will be able to deprive the enemy of the opportunity to carry out shock-assault actions in active defence on the enemy’s key directions. It will already be about the fact that we will squeeze the enemy from key positions that are important to us. Accordingly, in order to achieve success, according to my convictions, in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the enemy needed to deploy additional power assets of our defence forces. Accordingly, the enemy started a campaign precisely in Kharkiv Oblast.”

STORYLINE:
From the sky, the Ukrainian drone unit commander has a bird’s eye view of Russia’s renewed offensive play out in the country’s war-ravaged northeast.
In one area, a Russian infantry unit were able to walk into a village and occupy it, according to a drone operator of the ACHILLES battalion of the 92nd brigade.
The depopulated village of Strilecha is one of a string of villages captured by Russian forces in the past few days.
Manul, another Ukrainian serviceman, spotted a military car cast in night-vision grayscale.
The suicide drone was prepared for flight, moments later the vehicle was struck. But the battle is far from over, “This is just the beginning,” he said.
Russia’s sudden offensive along the border with Kharkiv has jolted the region, opening a new front in the two-year war, and putting additional pressure on already overstretched Ukrainian forces.
Precious reserves meant to halt Russia’s advance elsewhere along the 1,000-kilometer (620-mile) contact line were rotated out to stabilize the new front and limit Moscow’s advance.
The next two months are expected to be the most difficult for Ukraine since the war began.
Ukrainian soldiers are concerned Russia will open more fronts along its border to further overstretch its limited manpower and exploit the window of time before promised Western military aid arrives.
