The Evolving Drone War: Tactics, Tech, and the Human Element
The videos reveal a clear trend: the increasing importance of drones in modern warfare. Ukraine has effectively integrated drones into its tactical operations, using them not just for surveillance but also for precision strikes, artillery spotting, and even psychological warfare. The Russian military, while also using drones, appears to be struggling with logistics and counter-drone measures. The improvised solutions employed by Russian forces, such as using bathtubs for transport, speaks volumes about their supply and equipment shortages. Today, there are a lot of updates from the direction of Toretsk.
Here, after the previous failed Russian assault, Ukrainians prepared for a swift and decisive counterattack to exploit the disarray among the retreating Russian forces. With Russian survivors left scattered and unsupported, the stage was set for the Ukrainian Azov brigade to dismantle their positions and prevent any chance of renewed offensives.
The main Ukrainian goal was to conduct a follow-up counterattack to eliminate the remaining Russian forces scattered throughout the settlements, as remnants after their latest failed assault. Despite being in an unorganized state, these Russian survivors posed a continued threat to the Ukrainians, as at any time, they could reorganize themselves for a renewed attack on the southern flank of Toretsk. To prevent the Russian forces from launching such a follow-up operation, Ukrainian commanders decided to launch direct assaults, to clear the enemy out while they were still unprepared.
To achieve their goal, Ukrainians conducted a series of clearing operations with infantry, because even though tank raids can deal significant damage, they may leave some survivors hiding in the basements, who can communicate with each other and accumulate. Ukrainians achieved this by deploying soldiers to conduct close-quarters combat to discover and eliminate Russian positions in narrow residential areas and basements.
The residential area Russians took up positions in, allowed the Russian forces around three hundred houses, allowing them to disperse their stormtroopers widely. The concealment provided by the houses and their basements hampers Ukrainian drone reconnaissance, making it difficult to detect and track the troops once scattered. The primary danger lies in the Russians using these basements as concealed positions to ambush Ukrainian infantry from unexpected locations during clearing operations.
However, Russian forces were largely left in a disorganized state, due to the heavy losses suffered during their latest attack on the southern flank. With Ukrainians deploying skilled sniper teams to deny the Russians free movement in between the houses, Russian soldiers knew that venturing into the open would almost certainly result in death. The suppression and disarray of the Russian forces allowed the Ukrainians to establish effective fire control over the area, with Ukrainian snipers and drone operators systematically eliminating any Russian soldiers who exposed themselves out in the open, picking them off one by one.
This enabled the Ukrainian 12th special purpose brigade Azov to launch well-coordinated counterattacks toward Nelipivka, deploying infantry squads to target isolated Russian units entrenched in houses and basements. Combat footage highlights the elite brigade’s soldiers’ methodical approach, advancing cautiously to neutralize Russian positions. They effectively suppressed and disoriented the Russian defenders by throwing hand grenades into the basements and buildings they were hiding in, creating opportunities to breach their strongholds. Capitalizing on the ensuing chaos, the Ukrainian troops swiftly raided the basements, successfully eliminating resistance and capturing the remaining Russian fighters.
Furthermore, the Russian forces in this sector lacked adequate transport vehicles, further compounding the plight of their isolated units, as they could not receive essential ammunition and supplies. Ukrainian fire control, reinforced by precision drone strikes, not only disrupted resupply efforts but also prevented any attempts to reinforce the village with additional resources. This exacerbated the already dire logistical challenges faced by the Russians, leaving their units increasingly vulnerable and under-equipped.
Combat footage released by Russian fighters in the area shows the state of Russian logistics is extremely dire, to the point where the Russian soldiers are forced to improvise by attaching bathtubs to their motorcycles to carry supplies in. Furthermore, another geolocated video shows how Russians were using golf carts and even electric scooters to transport their soldiers and supplies to the village, which were, of course, instantly destroyed by Ukrainian kamikaze drones.
Overall, the failure of the previous Russian attacks and a lack of logistics vehicles and reinforcements established perfect conditions for a successful Ukrainian counterattack that cleared the Russian presence from the settlements. The Russian use of improvised civilian vehicles is a stark sign of the rising issues, as armored vehicles are becoming fewer and more scarce among Russian forces due to high losses in suicidal assaults in the past. This development gradually renders them incapable of conducting large offensive maneuvers and exposes further weaknesses…
Recorded on a Ukrainian soldierβs body camera, the video begins with the two men exchanging gunfire near the ruins of a heavily damaged building.
The Ukrainian soldier eventually closes the distance, grabbing his opponent’s automatic rifle.
This sparks a physical struggle that escalates when the Russian soldier draws a knife and slashes his rival in the thigh.
The video also captured an emotional moment where the wounded Ukrainian and the Russian soldier show respect to each other as one of them dies from their injuries.
The footage was reportedly filmed in Trudove, Zaporizhzhia, last autumn, but has recently surfaced on social media and Russian outlets.

Today, there are a lot of interesting updates from the Kursk direction.
Here, in a desperate attempt to break through Ukrainian defenses near Kruglenkoe, North Korean troops resorted to human bait tactics, sending selected soldiers to their death to distract Ukrainian drone operators. However, their poorly executed strategy led to catastrophic losses, leaving the battlefield littered with bodies, and no results to show for it.
Recently, the Russian command decided to re-prioritize their advance in the area of Kruglenke, to achieve the primary goal of their current phase of the counteroffensive. These series of attacks play a vital role in the achievement of their broader operational goal of taking Malaya Loknya and eliminating the northern part of the Kursk salient.
Previously, Russian forces failed in their flank attack north of Novoivanovka, diminishing their chances of bypassing the main Ukrainian defenses in and around the village. This failure prevents them from accelerating their advance toward Malaya Loknya, as the main highway to the town remains under Ukrainian control. Consequently, their only viable option is to persist with attacks near Kruglenke, where breaching Ukrainian defenses could enable them to advance on Malaya Loknya.
The tactical terrain around the Kruglenkoe area provides North Korean fighters with the opportunity to gather and prepare for assaults within the nearby forests. These wooded areas serve as a natural cover, enabling the North Koreans to amass their forces in significant numbers. This buildup aims to achieve numerical superiority, which they intend to leverage in a large-scale onslaught to overwhelm and bypass Ukrainian defenses.
To conduct the assault, North Koreans must move large assault groups across open fields, making them highly vulnerable to Ukrainian drone reconnaissance, FPV drone strikes, and artillery fire. This vulnerability is exacerbated by the poor training and preparation of North Korean soldiers for such scenarios. Documents recovered from killed North Korean soldiers reveal their primary anti-drone tactic involves using live baitβone soldier running to distract the drone while two others attempt to shoot it down with small arms fire. However, this tactic proves ineffective, as their tendency to move in large, clustered groups allows Ukrainian drone operators and artillery to neutralize multiple soldiers with a single strike.
The North Korean lack of training and familiarity with modern technology and warfare leaves them highly vulnerable to precision strikes by Ukrainian forces. Unaware that their movements toward the forests were being monitored by drones, the North Koreans failed to conceal their approach effectively. Ukrainian drone operators quickly identified their positions upon their arrival in the forests and relayed the coordinates to artillery units. This enabled Ukrainian forces to deliver devastating strikes using artillery and cluster munitions against the concentrated North Korean troops, exploiting their lack of tactical awareness.
The remaining survivors are subsequently hunted down and destroyed by newly arrived Ukrainian drone operators, who found it easier to eliminate North Korean soldiers than their previous training targets, due to North Koreans being bunched up. Overall, the Russian generals deployed North Korean forces in yet another assault where their lack of training became a significant advantage for the Ukrainian defenders. The Ukrainians successfully detected and eliminated large concentrations of North Korean soldiers, exposing the vulnerabilities of poorly coordinated tactics. This assault once again highlighted the impracticality of the North Koreans’ improvised methods against drones and artillery. Despite repeated failures, North Korean commanders remain oblivious to the primary cause of their heavy lossesβthe tendency to cluster their troops in large groups. This approach continues to make them easy targets for Ukrainian precision strikes, resulting in unsustainable casualties that are likely to persist unless their tactics are fundamentally restructured.

Today there are a lot of interesting updates from the Toretsk direction. Here, the Ukrainians successfully destroyed once-powerful Russian defensive positions by extensively using improvised explosives by demolition squads. This significantly destabilized Russian positions in this part of the front, giving the Ukrainians an opportunity for the second wave of counterattacks. Earlier, Russian operations in Toretsk’s central high-rise area stalled as their forces faced constant raids by Ukrainian stormtrooper squads, coordinated with drone strikes. Over time, Ukrainian drone attacks intensified, with combat footage showing Russian soldiers attempting to play dead in a desperate effort to evade drones, only to be detected and eliminated. Unlike in many other areas of the front, Ukrainian drone operators in Toretsk were able to more easily locate Russian drone positions. Combat footage from one operation showed a Ukrainian drone identifying Russian drone operators three kilometers behind the frontline and destroying their base. Such strikes significantly suppressed Russian drone activity in Toretsk, enabling Ukrainian soldiers to assault Russian positions with reduced risk of drone strikes. The original uncensored combat footage of these operations can be found on our Telegram channel through the link in the description. With Russian drone activity suppressed, Ukrainian soldiers seized the opportunity to approach Russian defensive positions in central high-rises and demolish them with heavy explosives. A video shared by Ukrainian fighters reveals their preparation of explosives for demolition squads, mostly improvising with available resources. They repurposed 17 TM-62 anti-tank mines and C-4 charges, bundling them into large packages and attaching cables for detonation. These explosive devices are powerful enough to destroy large high-rise buildings where many Russian fighters are stationed. Combat footage from the high-rise area shows the detonation of these explosives, completely destroying a nine-story building used by Russian forces to amass troops, operate drones, and establish command points. Another video captures the demolition of a second high-rise with similar improvised explosives. These high-rises offered strategic firing positions for Russian soldiers, who used them to set up machine guns, anti-tank missile posts, and drone launch sites. With the destruction of these buildings, Russian defenses in the high-rise area were significantly weakened, as most of the structures were reduced to ruins. The destruction of key Russian firing positions and drone bases set the stage for a coordinated Ukrainian counterattack on Toretsk’s central high-rises. The Ukrainians initially targeted two high-rises facing the northern part of the city, creating a gap in Russian defenses that allowed Ukrainian stormtroopers to advance behind the remaining high-rises. Buildings facing westward were ineffective in repelling Ukrainian assaults, as their narrow, windowless sides left them with blind spots. With their main defensive positions compromised, Russian forces were pushed from the compromized high-rises. The Ukrainian counterattack successfully recaptured a third of the high-rise district and surrounding areas in central Toretsk, with ongoing efforts to push Russian forces out of the remaining high-rise positions.
Overall, the Ukrainians successfully suppressed the Russian firing positions, demolished them with explosives, and gradually started retaking lost positions from crumbling Russian defenses. Ukrainian Luhansk Group of Forces Spokesperson Major Anastasiya Bobovnikova reported that Russian forces have decreased their attacks in Toretsk but have not decreased their artillery and air strikes. Intense artillery and air strikes have however switched their purpose, as Russians are desperately trying to suppress advancing Ukrainians in all-out defense, which often led to accidentally bombing their troops in brutal friendly-fire incidents, which help to amplify Ukrainian operations even more.

Ukraineβs SNIPER Team Sets Perfect Ambush Against Russian BTR-82A! Ambush Intense Combat Footage!TEW22250,938 views | 4,273 | November 2 2024 16:17:06 (118 comments)[ Read more … ]
In the intense combat zone of Zolotaya Niva, Ukrainian forces are executing complex maneuvers to maintain control amid unrelenting Russian assaults. Recently, the 48th Separate Assault Battalion completed a high-risk personnel rotation using BTR-80 armored personnel carriers, ensuring that fresh Ukrainian infantry could relieve the weary frontline soldiers. As Ukrainian forces rotated under relentless artillery fire, Russia launched a coordinated assault from a different direction, attempting to break Ukrainian lines.
Anticipating this, the Ukrainian Hunter Drone Team targeted Russian armored vehicles, obliterating them before they could close in. Drones continued to strike, neutralizing nearby Msta-S artillery guns and destroying a Kamaz ammunition truck, crippling Russian supply routes and firepower. The coordinated use of drones and artillery neutralized multiple enemy assets, maintaining Ukraine’s defensive edge.
The situation escalated as Ukrainian REG Team ambushed a Russian landing party, destroying two BTR-82As with precise strikes. At the same time, sniper teams and drones monitored enemy positions, neutralizing soldiers attempting to infiltrate Ukrainian lines. In Kharkiv, Ukrainian forces dismantled Russian drone operations, striking bases concealed in civilian structures and disrupting Russia’s aerial surveillance. Meanwhile, Azov Brigade drones in the Toretsky direction disrupted ongoing βmeat assaultsβ by Russian infantry, breaking apart advancing waves with pinpoint accuracy. This multi-layered defense showcases Ukraineβs tactical precision and technological prowess in countering large-scale assaults.
