Ukraine's drone blitz targets Crimea. Crippling Russia's war machine. Strategic strangulation. See the action! Click to learn more.
Crimea. Black Sea. Vacation spot for oligarchs, or so they thought. Now? Target practice. These YouTube clips paint a clear picture: Ukraine’s not just nipping at Russia’s heels anymore; they’re going for the jugular in Crimea. Years back, we were told Crimea was a done deal, Russian forever. Zelenskyy said different. Looks like he meant it. This ain’t just about territory; it’s about choking off Russia’s ability to wage war.
Key Takeaways from the Drone Blitz
Crimea is Ground Zero: Forget the frontlines in the Donbas for a minute. Crimea, annexed in ’14 and used as a launchpad for the ’22 invasion, is now the bullseye. Zelenskyy’s words – “War began with Crimea, it ends with Crimea” – ain’t just rhetoric. They’re operational doctrine.
Strikes are Deep and Deliberate: This isn’t random harassment. We’re talking coordinated, large-scale drone attacks hitting strategic targets across Crimea: airbases like Belbek and Saky, key for Russian air power projection; the Kerch Bridge region, a logistical artery; and the port of Tuapse, vital for Black Sea Fleet resupply. These aren’t potshots; they’re designed to cripple Russian military capabilities.
Air Power Taking a Hit: Damage to fighter jets and strike aircraft at Belbek and Saky airbases means Russia’s ability to bomb Ukrainian positions is directly impacted. Less air support for their ground troops, fewer sorties over Ukraine. That’s a battlefield advantage, bought and paid for in explosions over Crimea.
Logistics Under Siege: The Tuapse refinery strike isn’t just about fuel. It’s about disrupting the entire supply chain feeding the Black Sea Fleet and, by extension, Russian forces in southern Ukraine. Fuel, arms, everything moves through ports like Tuapse. Hit the port, you hit the war machine.
Black Sea Fleet in Disarray: It’s not just Ukrainian attacks. The videos mention storm damage, sinking ships, and tanker collisions. Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, once a symbol of power projection, is looking more like a liability. Aging vessels, poor maintenance, and now constant attacks – it’s a bad combination. The sinking of the Ashamba research vessel and tanker incidents aren’t just accidents; they’re symptoms of a fleet under pressure and stretched thin.
Sanctions Bite, Shadow Fleet Bleeds: Russia’s relying on a "shadow fleet" of old, uninsured tankers to bypass sanctions and keep the oil flowing. But these rust buckets are falling apart, causing environmental disasters and drawing increased scrutiny from the EU. It’s a short-term fix with long-term consequences, and Ukraine is exploiting this weakness.
Drones as Force Multipliers: These videos underscore the effectiveness of drones – both for Ukraine attacking Crimea and, as seen in one video, for Russia striking Ukrainian positions. Drones are cheap, relatively expendable, and can deliver a punch way out of proportion to their size. They’re changing the calculus of warfare, making fixed positions and large concentrations of forces increasingly vulnerable.
Analysis: Strategic Strangulation
What we’re seeing in Crimea isn’t just a series of attacks; it’s a campaign of strategic strangulation. Ukraine can’t take Crimea head-on with ground forces right now. But they can make it untenable for Russia to use it as a secure rear area and logistics hub. By hitting airbases, ports, and supply lines, Ukraine is degrading Russia’s military infrastructure in Crimea, weakening the Black Sea Fleet, and complicating Russia’s overall war effort.
This drone blitz also serves a crucial political purpose. It demonstrates to the world – and to wavering allies – that Ukraine is not just defending, but actively taking the fight to Russia, even in territory Russia considers its own. It keeps Crimea in the headlines, reminding everyone that this war isn’t frozen and that Ukraine intends to reclaim what was taken.
The mention of Russia deploying S-500 systems to Crimea highlights the pressure these attacks are creating. The S-500 is supposed to be their top-tier air defense. Moving it to Crimea suggests they’re feeling the heat and are worried about losing more high-value assets.
Final Word: The Pressure is On
Crimea is burning, metaphorically and maybe literally. Ukraine’s drone attacks are more than just pinpricks; they are a calculated effort to bleed Russia dry in the Black Sea and undermine their grip on occupied territory. This is about more than just drones; it’s about strategy, will, and making the cost of occupation too high for Russia to bear.

A drone struck the mobile command post of Russia’s 31st Air Defense Division near the village of Olenivka in the Cape Tarkhankut area of temporarily occupied Crimea, Russian Telegram channel Astra reported.
The attack reportedly damaged a mobile radar station. No casualties were reported.
Late on Feb. 25, explosions were heard across occupied Crimea. Reports indicated drone attacks and air defense activity in various parts of the peninsula, with explosions and air defense operations heard in Kerch and Saky.
The previous day, Russian Telegram channels reported multiple explosions in the area of Tuapse in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, where several drones attacked the local seaport.
Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev later confirmed the drone attack, stating that debris allegedly damaged three residential buildings.
Crimea serves as a strategic hub for Russia’s military operations against Ukraine, hosting airbases, ammunition depots, communication centers, radar stations, and air defense systems. Ukrainian drone strikes aim to weaken Russia’s military presence and reduce the threat of missile attacks.
The recent string of Ukrainian strikes against occupied Crimea may help degrade Russian air defenses in the area and decrease the threat to Ukrainian tactical aviation, said experts.
Air defense losses apparently made Moscow nervous enough to move elements of the latest S-500 system to the peninsula, Ukraine’s military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov said. Russian officials have not commented on the claim. The S-500, development by Russia’s Almaz-Antey state enterprise which began in the late 2000s is said to be able to take on all aerial threats, including stealth aircraft, intercontinental ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles, and low-orbit satellites. It can be configured for long-range air defense or for missile defense. The S-500 and its components are mounted on the BAZ-6909 family of multi-terrain vehicles and include advanced battle management radar systems to support detection and engagement of multiple targets simultaneously.
The system has a claimed maximum operational range of 600 kilometers at altitudes of up to 200 kilometers a major improvement on Russia’s current S-300 and S-400 systems as well as exceeding the capabilities of the US Patriot and THAAD systems.
Earlier, Telegram channel Astra reported that in the first two months of 2025 alone, drones had attacked at least 17 oil facilities in Russia. http://youtube.com/kanal13az/join – click here and support Kanal13 monthly for distributing more videos and independent journalism
Using mines and drones, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled Russian marines’ attack involving over ten tanks and company-sized personnel in the west of the Ukrainian-held area. A Russian attack force of the 155th Marine Brigade, advancing with Soviet flags flying from their vehicles, suffered significant losses during an attempted assault in Kursk Oblast.
Russian forces reportedly launched the attack with over ten tanks and approximately a company-sized unit of personnel, trying to reclaim Nikolsky hamlet on the western rim of the Ukrainian-held salient. Despite their numerical advantage, Russian forces sustained heavy casualties from minefields and Ukrainian drones.
