The Drone Battlefield: A New Era of Warfare in Ukraine
The skies over Ukraine have become a critical battleground, a swirling ballet of death delivered by whirling rotors. This isn’t science fiction. This is the grim reality of modern warfare, where the whine of a drone can be a harbinger of destruction. The videos highlighted below offer a raw, unflinching look at how both Ukrainian and Russian forces are leveraging drone technology, changing the very nature of conflict in Eastern Europe. From repurposed commercial drones dropping improvised explosives to purpose-built military UAVs striking deep behind enemy lines, the footage paints a stark picture of a war fought increasingly in the digital realm, with devastating real-world consequences. What we’re witnessing is a paradigm shift in how wars are fought, and Ukraine is at its epicenter. These videos document not only the tactical use of these weapons, but also the psychological impact on soldiers and civilians alike, living under the constant threat from the sky.
The Rise of "Baba Yaga":Ukrainian bomber drones, nicknamed "Baba Yaga" after the fearsome witch of Slavic folklore, are causing significant damage to Russian forces and instilling fear in their ranks, pushing the front lines of war further into Russian territory.

The Ghost in the Machine: Analyzing the Future of Drone Warfare
The proliferation of drones in the Ukraine conflict is a terrifying glimpse into the future of warfare. The videos highlight a crucial trend: the increasing accessibility and affordability of drone technology, lowering the barrier to entry for both state and non-state actors. This democratization of aerial warfare raises serious questions about the future of conflict, especially considering the ethical implications surrounding autonomous weapons systems and the potential for their misuse. As seen in the attacks on Russian airbases and military factories, the reach of drone warfare is expanding, blurring the lines between the front lines and the home front.

Naval drones belonging to the Ukrainian Navy attacked gas platforms in the Black Sea near Crimea, which are under Russian occupation. The information and drone footage of the operation were released by the commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Vice Admiral Alexei Neijpapa. As a result of the attack, the surveillance systems located on the gas platforms were destroyed by explosions. There were also casualties among the Russian military personnel on the platform.
Ukraine lost control of several offshore platforms after Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, and it claims that these platforms have since been used for military purposes by Russia. This attack is part of Ukraine’s broader efforts to counter Russian naval presence in the Black Sea, allowing Kyiv to open a significant maritime transit corridor.

Ukrainian drone bombers like Baba Yaga are the occupiers’ “worst nightmare” and they fear them like fire. Ukrainian army communications specialist Sergei Beskrestnov spoke about the features of these drones and their role at the front in an interview with LIGAnet .
He says that under autonomous control, such drones can fly deep into Russian territory; within 10 km from the front, they βattack absolutely everything they can β expensive equipment, warehouses.β
Therefore, the Russians try not to keep critical military targets in this zone and direct all efforts to minimize losses from these drones.
“Their opponents are afraid of them like fire… They track them with “mavics” with thermal imagers and try to attack or shoot with nets. If we are lagging behind the Russians in FPV, then in the bomber segment we are the leader,” he notes.
At the same time, the specialist noted that Baba Yaga cannot attack if the target is covered by electronic warfare, so fiber optics could be a good solution for them.
“In China there are serial reels for 10 km, the Chinese can make reels for 20 km to order. They weigh three kilograms, but for a large bomber this is not a problem,” he explained.
According to him, the Russians have not yet figured out how to copy Ukrainian drone bombers, but they are learning, adopting remote mining techniques from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, when mines and ammunition are scattered behind enemy lines.
“They are trying to combat this, they are setting up night patrols that can determine by ear when and where the bomber is flying to drop mines. They mark the points where they heard the sound so that they can check in the morning and make sure there are no mines there. We, accordingly, record these observation posts and minus them with drops,” says “Flesh.”
The Russians admit that Ukraine has made significant progress in upgrading UAVs of this type. According to the former head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin, our country has increased the range and stealth level of such UAVs.
It later became known that the Russian Federation had begun mass production of the heavy strike and reconnaissance drone “MiS-35”, which is positioned as a mini-Baba Yaga.

Russia Destroys 3 HIMARS MLRS | Drones Hit T-64, M777, Bradley, & VartaMilitary Gear35,615 views | 974 | December 4 2024 12:00:24 (80 comments)[ Read more … ]
Russian Missile Attack Destroys 3 HIMARS MLRS Launchers
On November 21, 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a $275 million U.S. defense aid package to bolster Ukraine’s front-line capabilities with drones, Stinger missiles, and HIMARS ammunition. However, on November 28, Russia launched a large-scale attack targeting HIMARS systems, Ukraine’s military-industrial sites, and energy infrastructure, deploying 97 drones and 91 missiles. This escalation, condemned by Zelenskyy as excessive, underscores the increasing tensions and risks of further conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
On December 1, 2024, Russia reported significant battlefield gains, with a North battlegroup targeting and destroying a Ukrainian M777 howitzer and a BMP Marder 1A3 near the Kursk border region. These strikes, particularly utilizing FPV drones, emphasize the rising dominance of drone warfare in neutralizing high-value assets like artillery and infantry fighting vehicles. The incidents showcase how evolving drone technologies are reshaping modern military strategies and increasing vulnerability even for advanced equipment.
On November 29, 2024, footage emerged of a Ukrainian T-64 tank, a Bradley IFV, and a Varta armored vehicle destroyed by the Russian FPV drone “Prince Vandal” near Kremyanoye in the Kursk region. Unlike typical FPV drones that rely on radio frequencies, Prince Vandal employs an innovative fiber-optic control system, offering resilience against electronic warfare but facing challenges with maneuverability and cable management. This advancement underscores the evolving sophistication in modern warfare, highlighting the ongoing technological race for battlefield dominance.
